Speeds for any Internet service are expressed as kilobytes per second (Kbps) or megabytes per second (Mbps); there are about 1,000 kilobytes in a megabyte.
For dial-up, speeds are about 30 Kbps to 56 Kbps. By contrast, cable Internet service downstream (web surfing, downloading files, getting email, etc.) speeds can theoretically reach 30 Mbps downstream and 5 Mbps upstream (sending photos or email attachments).
In general, the higher the speed, the higher the cost of service.
Take your choice of some great dial up internet access providers like PeoplePC
, Copper.net
and the popular NetZero
Internet services.
Check their local access numbers and if you find there are no local access numbers for you with one internet provider, just go down the list and check out the others. They're all worth a look. And take the time to compare each one in terms of what they give you as well as price. Some may give you more than you need, others may miss the boat in terms of what you're looking for. See Choosing An ISP for some direction.
